Easter Sensory Bath

Callie and Josh both love bath time. I enjoy mixing it up every once in awhile to make it extra special. The blog, Growing a Jeweled Rose, has a lot of awesome sensory play ideas, including bath play. I completely copied this Easter bath from her. (Isn't it great to have the internet for so many ideas now!?) Neither Callie nor Josh really liked all the Easter grass in the tub because it was clinging all over them, so we took it out pretty quickly.

For this bath, I dyed the water with food coloring. I put some plastic dinosaurs in the big eggs and in the little eggs I put some of those pellets that have sponge shapes that grow when placed in water. I also added some foam eggs that stick really well to the walls when wet.

Painting the Bath Bubbles

For St. Patrick's Day I had painted their bath bubbles a pretty rainbow. Tonight I let the kids have the spray bottles and they painted the bubbles themselves. This was a hit with them, and by the end, they were spraying the paint of themselves! And yes, it does wash off of both kids and tub!

St. Patty's Rainbow Bath

I was trying to figure out what to do for the kids to make their bath fun on St. Patrick's Day. I was thinking about just dying the water green, but I've done that before. I wanted something new. I was talking with my friend about it and she said she had seen on Pinterest where the bath was a rainbow. I thought that would be fun, so I started thinking about how to do that. I decided that I would make a bubble bath and just paint the bubbles with my liquid watercolors. I finally found the original idea here, and that was exactly what she did. I loved how she added the treasure hunt in, so I did that also. I dumped plastic coins, shamrocks, and glass gems in the bottom before filling the tub up with water. In Callie's words: "This is AWESOME!!!"

Shaving Cream Paint in the Tub

This is a really easy and fun activity to do during bathtime. You just need some shaving cream and some food coloring. I was all out of everything but blue and yellow in my regular food coloring. It's a good thing I have a large assortment of cake decorating supplies!

All you need is some shaving cream and food coloring.

Colors in the Bath

For bath time yesterday I got out some color tabs that I had bought at Target. They are little dissolvable tablets that create various colors in your water. I placed 4 clear plastic vases that I had bought from the Dollar store on the ledge of the tub. I then filled them half way with water and let the kids pick which color tab they wanted. Callie chose yellow and blue, and Josh picked yellow and red. They were amazed when I dropped the tablets in and the water turned colors. Now, I had high hopes of making a color mixing lesson out of this. They immediately reached to grab the cups and asked if they could dump them in the water. "Wait" I almost screamed, though I did hold back my voice a little! I could see my grand teaching moment vanishing. I asked Callie to pour some of the blue into the yellow, and she was surprised to see it turn green. After that tiny little educational experience, the cups were dumped into the water. Oh-well, they still had a ball mixing all the water in the tub. I still have more tablets, so we'll pull them out again another time and try the lesson over. It is important for kids to play while learning, so I really didn't have a problem with all the colored water ending up in the tub, I was just hoping to prolong it. :)

I am not a good photographer and I really need to learn how to use our camera, because we have a nice one, but you can still get the idea in these pictures. I bought a pack of glow sticks at Michaels a month or two ago, and this is the second time they have played with them in the bathtub. It looks really cool, especially when there are a lot of bubbles.
