The Start of Kindergarten

Well, Callie is officially in kindergarten. Even though she is 6, and not the traditional 5, I still can't believe she is old enough to be in school. We have made the decision to homeschool for now. We don't know how long we will homeschool, but it works for us right now, so that's what we're going to stick with.

I bought the kindergarten curriculum from My Father's World. It has been pretty easy for Callie since it starts out learning letters and numbers, but I focus more on handwriting, and I love the Bible lessons that all the lessons are based on.

We made a Creation timeline during the first week of school:

Auntie Anna also did a fun ocean craft with them:

And we had a fun lunch that went along with what God has created:

Fun Food Friday: Dolphins

I didn't have anything special planned today, so I pulled out one of my trusty sandwich punches and put together this super easy lunch. The dolphins are peanut butter and jelly with candy eyes. There are applesauce and cantaloupe in the large muffin liners, and some vegan marshmallows in the little one.

Fun Food Friday: A Sweet Butterfly

This was another quick and easy one that I copied from Meet the Dubiens. I am so glad there are so many awesome ideas on the internet that I don't have to come up with everything! It's so much easier to copy, and the kids could care less!

I should have just used regular bread because my kids aren't a fan of tortillas for whatever reason. Callie ate her veggie meat with the lettuce rolled up inside, and Josh just picked out the cheese and ate that. Maybe I should have also just stuck with peanut butter and jelly!

Fun Food Friday: A Hatching Chick

Callie has had this weird obsession with hatching eggs the last month. She keeps asking us to find some eggs for her so she can sit on them to keep them warm until they hatch. When I told her she would probably break them, she said that she would just wrap them in a blanket instead. She has been begging me to make a hatching chick for their lunch for several weeks, so I figured since Easter is on Sunday, today would be a great day for that!

Fun Food Friday: A Palm Tree Lunch

This lunch was pretty simple. I'm sure everyone has seen the snack using bananas and kiwis to make palm trees. One of these days I'll do that for the kids snack. For lunch, I wanted to copy that idea but wanted to use a sandwich and some veggies. I made pb&j sandwiches and cut them into tree trunks. Then I cute up some cucumber and used a can of mandarin oranges for the palm branches. The "grass" is cut up celery. Callie cleaned her plate! Josh ate everything except about half the celery, so I'd say this lunch was a hit!

Fun Food Friday: Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Sorry I haven't posted any pictures this week. It's been a very busy week. We were doing a rainbow theme for the few activities that we did do, so I thought I'd do a rainbow for our lunch today. I hate having to cute a sandwich free hand because it never turns out the way I envision it. Knowing I wanted to do a cloud and rainbow, I had ordered a cloud cookie cutter on Monday, hoping it would be here by today. The time came for the sandwich to be cut, and the mail hadn't come yet, so I unfortunately had to free hand it. Just as the kids were biting into the sandwich, the mail came, and with it my cookie cutter! Oh-well. Now I have a cute cloud cookie cutter to use another time.

Fun Food Friday: A Lucky Lunch

This was a super simple lunch to put together. I used a cookie cutter to cut out the sandwich and put St. Patty's themed sprinkles on top. There are pickles, applesauce, and candy coated sunflower seeds in the muffin cups. The sunflower seeds are actually left over from Christmas, so I just picked out the red ones!

This was last year's lunch, but I added it on here in case anyone wanted some more inspiration, and because it is my absolute favorite lunch I have ever done!  The sandwich was cut with a circle cutter and the hat was made from a bell pepper, fruit leather, and vegan cheese. I decorated the face using shaved carrots, craisens, vegan cheese, and fruit leather. The rainbow sprinkles are candy coated sunflower seeds, and various fruit make up the rainbow on the side.

Fun Food Friday: Flowers

This was pretty easy. I saw this design on another website (sorry, can't remember where) and thought it would be easy enough to make. It didn't turn out quite as cute as the one I had seen, but that's okay. The kiddos still enjoyed it. The sandwiches are peanut butter and jelly with a carrot and cucumber center. The stems, leaves, and grass are all cut from a cucumber.

Fun Food Friday: A Heartfelt Lunch

Today's lunch was super easy. I just cut some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with my heart cookie cutter, and added grape tomatoes and applesauce with sprinkles to some heart shaped silicone muffin tins.

Fun Food Friday: Dinosaurs

Today's lunch was super easy. I had to run some errands this morning, so by the time I got back, I didn't have enough time to create what I had originally planned. I pulled out the trusty sandwich press (I really need to get more of those things because they are great!) and went to work.

The dinosaurs are vegan grilled cheese sandwiches with candy eyes. I put tomato soup in the big bowl and cut up cucumbers in the silicone cup. Couldn't be easier!

Fun Food Friday: Mr. Snowman

I have been posting these on facebook since last year, but figured I'd post them here also. I was inspired by a blog called "Meet the Dubiens" and I get a lot of my ideas from her. Enjoy!

The snowman is made from bread spread with vegenaise and topped with veggie corned beef and vegan mozzarella and cut into circles. The hat is cut from fruit leather and the arms are carrots. The buttons, mouth, and snowflakes are all different kinds of sprinkles. The nose is a carrot and he has candy eyes. Super fun and cute and the kids loved it, which is the most important!
